Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Really need some advice from anyone who knows about seizures/epilepsy please?

I posted the other day about my ds. He had a blood test done, and he was upset but once it was all done (approx 5-10mins after) and he had calmed down he had a seizure that lasted prob about 10 seconds.

He arched his back and was totally rigid, his eyes rolled into his head and he went grey looking. He came out of it, I led him on the bed (nurse said to do this) and he started to vomit, I and the nurse had to prop him up, he vomited about 3 times. He was very lethargic, looked "drugged" and floppy for about an hour afterwards...

Now after speaking to a GP, who said it sounded epileptic, and using the dreaded google it has got me thinking....

Ds since being about 2 has developed a sleep disorder, he has terrible night terrors and was tested for sleep apnea (ruled out) and is now on fast and slow release melatonin.

The fast release has worked in helping him to drop off, he wouldn't keep still long enough to go to sleep, but the slow release hasn't really helped, he still wakes frequently.

Last night he got into bed with me as normal, and I was awoken by him thrashing around the bed, he sat up about 3 times, eyes open but vacant and when I spoke to him he ignored me. He also at one point got out of bed and then got back in, I also observed him trying to sleep but his right arm kept moving...almost like it wasn't part of him and it kept waking him up. He has done the thrashing/kicking and shouting in his sleep for quite some time...not every night though.

Now after doing some reading, I am now concerned these could be nocturnal seizures, do you think?

Also would nocturnal seizures evolve into daytime seizures at some point?

I must also add, he has been diagnosed with GDD, SPD, and a verbal diagnosis of ASD and ADHD. He also suffers with chronic constipation and glue ear (on picolax syrup, full-time nappies and has 2 hearing aids.

Any thought/advice would really be appreciated Smile

It sounds dodgy. You need to contact his paed, really. Any seizure activity can change type, I think, so yes night seizures can become day ones.

Hi pucca. There does sound to be some indication that these could be partial seizures in his sleep. DS had his first ever "proper" seizure in his sleep after just having jerks during the day. Although things have been bloody awful at times, we've been fortunate that he's never had full blown tonic clonic (grand mal) seizures in the day apart from when he was on a medication which just sent things bonkers. As Lougle says, seizures can change at any time and from type to type.

I'd certainly go back to your GP for a referal - sounds like a few day/sleep deprived EEG might be useful.

Hi, sounds like partial seizures to me. Demand all the tests going.

Re the injection. There is also a syndrome whereby kids have seizure -type things when they are afraid but it is not technically epilepsy.

Agree with the others, you need to get referred for an EEG. Good luck, let us know how you get on.

Good luck.

There are all sorts of epileptic and non-epileptic events that can happen and look seizure-like (people can even have a mix).

I went to see GP this morning who said he will only do something about it if ds has another "episode".
