Hi.Not sure if your ds is undergoing assessment for SN, but if he is on the Spectrum,(ASD), this would be a sensory "thing" he is doing.
My ds has HFA and chews everything-hes 12! Funny, he didnt start this until a few yrs ago. He chews clothes, toys, tv remotes-even wood on the table!!
The OT gave him chewing tubes, which you can flavour, but he doesnt like them-prefers our furniture!
Does any of this help, or are you more confused than before? lol.

Hi. SN stands for Special Needs, and ASD stands for Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
Absolutely not meaning to infer that your ds has either.
Have you voiced your concerns to your Health Visitor/GP? Do you have a gut feeling yourself that your ds may have some difficulties?
I would be a little concerned that he isnt walking and talking-at least in few words sentences-if he is now 2yrs old.
If I or anyone else can help with anything, post again. Bye.

OT woman thinks it's highly unlikely he is autistic as ge has very good concentration. Not sure about it there are so many different types. The poor muscle development could be linked to his lack of speech as well I suppose. I am adopted so there is not genetic info on my side at all. Would it be possible to get this or would I need to contact my real mum wherever she is

How does he communicate with you if not talking? Dragging ? Pointing? Signs? Does he understand what you say to him?
