Took ds (5) to the cinema today to see Toy Story 3. I wasn't expecting to stay the whole way through but I thought we'd give it a go anyhow.

He was brilliant for 45 mins. He was a bit chatty so we shushed him as much as we could but we could've done without the old trout in front of us tutting each time.

It's pretty clear my ds is not NT so why did she have to be so shitty?

He'd had enough after a bit and wanted to leave so we took him out. I thought it was just me but DH said he'd noticed too (and he never notices anything) so I was all for marching back in there to 'explain' the situation to her.

DH wouldn't let me...

Silly old bat Angry. It infuriates me whn people moan about the noise when its a childrens film and there are children there making noise.

DS2 has only been to the pictures twice, he was up and down every 5 minutes the first tim, the second time he screamed/sobbed until the curtains went up and then needed the toilet every 20 minutes.

Idiots some people.

Hassled · 10/08/2010 19:34

Karma will come back to get her in some form or other, I'm sure. I think most (sane) people are pretty forgiving of children, NT or not, in a cinema - it's the chatty adults that wind me up :o.

RaggedRobin · 10/08/2010 20:51

silly woman. i'd have been tempted to suggest an evening showing to her.

we took ds yesterday and it was his first time in a cinema. he has a habit of giving a running commentary, but the cinema was full of noisy children, so people sensibly seemed to be more accepting. he had to leave during a couple of scarey bits but was happy to go back in when the music was "friendly".

i took ds to see Toy Story today too!
there were only about 6 other people in the whole hall and we were near the front in the wheelchair spaces, everyone else was up the back, just as well as ds was being rather vocal about the length of time it was taking to get the main feature on! Grin

Spinkle · 10/08/2010 20:59

Yeah, my ds is profoundly affected by music too (part. stuff in a minor key)

You know, grown, presumably NT adults giggle and chatter and rustle sweet papers all the way through films. I don't think I've been to one where that hasn't been the case. Miserable old trout sounds a fitting description of someone who doesn't expect at least a bit of noise from a child.

Oh, and we never even made it in to Toy Story 3 with DS1. Got free tickets through the local Children's Network, so it would have been a trout free experience especially for disabled children. He refused to have anything to do with it! :(

5inthebed · 10/08/2010 21:32

:( Ouryve

I was meant to be taking DS2 today for his birthday, but he decided his fear of curtains was too great. Will just wait until it is out on DVD.

GladioliBuckets · 10/08/2010 22:42

Oh we've been kicked out of a cinema before, wish I'd had the guts to argue, I just cried. And it was a FREE showing of a kids' movie with small kids up and down going to the loo constantly etc. It was also a steep auditorium so although DS1 was running around the front, he wasn't blocking anyon'es view. He just kept occasionally shouted happy things like 'They really HAVE gone to the moon!'Grin

Reminds me of DS2 the first time I took him to the pictures. We went into the auditorium and upon entering DS2 yelled at the top of his voice "Everyone I'm here", as if he was wanting a round of applause or something HmmGrin

That's shocking Gladioli. I would have been crying too.

Trying to persuade a friend who runs a local cinema to start a SN screening. Our nearest SN screening is 35 miles away - I think he might actually make a bit of cash doing it. I'd certainly pay over the odds to make it a nicer experience!!

Spinkle Great idea. DS1 is far more manageable these days but we still go to the Picturehouse autism screenings for the sheer fun and the smell of relief emanating from the parents lol. At ours, it works best having their bigger auditorium even if it's not cost effective, more room for people to run about, nobody trapped next to someone else's smelly sandwiches. They have some v low rostra at the bottom and the kids just can't resist them. And I think anyone can go to it, it's just a question of are they prepared to have someone barking behind them every few minutes.

wont worry, my dd2 spat water all over the old lady in front of us last week!! Blush
