AS & Reading fiction

Does anybodies children with AS like reading fiction?
DS loves fact books, he reads history books every night, but he also loves reading fiction. Although I think that maybe he doesn't actually get the whole 'fiction' thing. A couple of days ago he made me search and search on the google maps for a place called Wildpool that is meant to have a great museum. After searching for Wildpool, the name of the school there etc etc I then decided to do a general google search for Wildpool. Turns out it is a place in a book Grin. He is convinced it must exist as Terry Deary who wrote the book (also writes Horrible Histories) wrote "I visited the museum". He still doesn't actually believe me that TD was making it up!

I know in the questionnaire I had to send back to the autism team they asked if preferred fact to fiction, might need to quantify my answer slightly Grin.

My DS loves fiction, especially science fiction and historical. Started off with Harry Potter, Roman Mysteries and Percy Jackson. Is now reading any science fiction I get for him.

But he can't choose his own books. I have to choose all his books - so maybe his tastes have been heavily influenced by mine :)

He does get very involved in books though. For example at the moment he is reading 'Red Mars' about the first people to settle on Mars. And he's pretty much planning his own mission there now....

But I'm fairly sure he understood Harry Potter was fiction.....

BTW an awful lot of the NT boys in his class have got very involved in the Avatar movie and they're all planning a trip there....

Dd1 (6) loves fiction and non-fiction (will read almost anything), she knows the difference between fiction and non-fiction (whats real and whats not), she does seem to prefer reading fact books and joke books at the moment.

DS1 loves both, we were given a job lot of horrible histories from our neighbours and he is really enjoying those but I am reading the Narnia books at bedtime ATM and he loves those too (and knows they aren't real etc.)

DS1 (who is a little bit "spectrummy" too) hates fantasy books and only enjoys fiction if its a war or spy drama.

DS1 has autism and loves fiction. He was into Jeremy Strong books for ages and has more recently been working his way through Oliver Moon stories. He recently picked out some beast quest books for himself. He seems to have no issue with believing they are real, but then again, he seems to tend to disbelieve that real things are real!

He tends to shun books with talking animals, these days. He has a really lively imagination, but talking animals are a step too far for him. Unlike talking trains, of course HmmConfused

As an adult on the autism spectrum, I love children's level fiction, Terry Pratchett etc, but can't cope with many adult-level fiction books because they are just too complex with too many social situations and names to deal with. I end up totally confused.
