"a disabled child element ( £2715) - for each child within the family on disability living allowance (DLA) or who is registered blind;
a severely disabled child element (£1095) - for each child within the family on the highest rate care component of DLA."

So if on high care you get both I think

Yes, as ADP says, you would get both, but they are treated like any other part of tax credits, so it will adjust according to your income. So if you are on a very low income, you may see up to £73 per week added to your CTC. If you are on a very high income, you may see no change at all.

Additionally, if you are on any means tested benefits such as Council Tax benefit, Housing benefit, etc., you need to tell them, because you will get premiums based on it.

Finally, if your child gets either Middle rate care or High rate care, you will be entitled to Carer's Allowance of £53.90, as long as you earn less than £100 per week after tax and look after your DD more than 35 hours per week.

lougie WRT low and high income this isnt always the case with the disabled child element

DP earns just over £30K and we recieve £350 every 4 weeks from tax credits due to DS1

I think (i may be wrong) that if your on middle rate DLA you will get the disability element of £2715 or on high rate is plus £1095 plus any other tax credits equal to your income if this makes sense

I didn't think earnings mattered either however Lougle does make a good point about Housing / Council Tax Benefit.

We get it and they took all of the extra tax credit as income for their purposes and sent us a huge backdated bill until I found out that they should have applied a premium which discounted it.

we get middle rate care and low rate mobility and we don't get any more child tax credits as they say we earn to much (our joint income is about £34,000)

It also depends on number of children you ahve - you get a lower allowance for one child than 2, or 3, etc

trace2 · 06/08/2010 19:06

its the high rate care what matters i think!
