I am sure there will be someone along soon with personal experience, but I happened to read about this today in Tony Attwoods Asperger book. It says The Sensory Profile is a 125 item questionnaire that measure the degree to which children from the ages of 5-11 exhibit problems in sensory processing, sensory modulation, behavioural and emotional responses to sensory experiences and hyper and hypo responsiveness. There is also a shorter version that only takes 10mins to complete.
I guess you should be glad they haven't sent the revised version that has 232 questions !

I have filled one of these in, and the preschool did one too. What is it that you want to know?

devientenigma · 01/08/2010 00:34

we have also done this, so feel free to ask anything. My ds has severe problems in all 8 areas of dysfunction.
I also wouldn't mind having a look at the revised version....can you access it online??

Lucky you! It sounds like they are taking your child's difficulties seriously, and trying to find out if he has Sensory Processing Disorder or not.

You really want to know this - because if he does there is loads and loads you can do to improve it. And improving it will make a huge diff to his life.

My OT gave us 4 Sensory Integration Treatment sessions. But they're only allowed to give 4 - no matter how many the child needs.

But a lot of us on this board have had great success with either private OTs or other related therapies.

So this is good news. If he has it you can help him. If he doesn't have it - you've ruled it out and can start to investigate other treatements.

dyscovery · 01/08/2010 15:19

yeah im going to fill it in with the help of my dh and my mum. think it needs more input than one person. i absolutely hate multi choice questionaires, coz that seems to be what it is.

What will they do with all this information when they've got it?

Make a list of recommendations which the local education authority, social services, etc will happily find the money for?

Pardon my cynicism

dyscovery · 02/08/2010 10:46

evientenigma i was wrong it can be acessed online

Sure Tall - the LEA may do nothing for you - but at least the OP will be able to research and fund her own treatment if she is able to...

This is slightly harder / more scary without a dx.....

dyscovery · 02/08/2010 22:19

havent got a clue what yous are talking about now??? what is an op?

IndigoBell · 03/08/2010 08:00
