Assesment For Statement Rubbish

Went today for an assesment for dds statement, and was very dissapointed.
I thought they were supposed to watch dd and then write report.
So was supprised when we went in a room with nothing in it but a table and chair for dd to sit at with no toys or pens and paper absolutly nothing for her to do!!!!!!
Whilst he just asked me questions and wrote down all that I said for half an hour.
Only thing he noticed about dd was lack of speech and that she dribbled a bit
I have alrady filled in my part of the statement so why I had to repeat it all to a stranger seems wrong to me.

PLEASE CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THEY HAD THE SAME EXPERIANCE [CONFUSED]

hi dounutbrain, somebody much more informative than me will come alone, just wanted to say that this didnt happen to me,was it the ed psychologist, thats the only person who came to see my ds. they sat and spoke to me for about an hour then went into the nursery to observe him.

i should think you could call them and question what was going on.

Hi Dountbrain

Which of the assessments was it - as for a Statement the LA nned to get reports from Paediatrician, School, Educational Psychologist and anyone else you tell them to consult.

Thanks for replies
Ed psychologist has alredy seen dd and spoke to me 2 months ago,and everyone else dd see,s has been contacted.
The paediatrician we have just seen was the last person you see before the statement is all put together (Thats what he told me)

Wondered does anyone know how much longer it should take for statement to be completed now,it does take a long time

Ds hasnt had any assessments, seems all the reports i supplied were enough because they were recent.

"Where a local education authority decides to assess a child for a statement, it must give the parents a proposed or draft statement within a further 12 weeks i.e. within 18 weeks of the parents first asking for an assessment. Once the parent is given a draft statement, the LA must consider any comments the parents may make about the statement, and must then give the parents a final statement within a further 8 weeks"

We saw a paed for a one-off assessment for statementing. It was a very brief basic assessment, just confirming information from previous reports and observations. He did an eye and hearing test as well - yours may have chosen not to do it with your DD if she doesn't have speech?

The EP assessment is far more important for statementing, unless your child has a lot of medical issues.

Do keep an eye on how long everything takes, all the stages in the stat assessment process have fixed deadlines for when they should be completed.

Thanks CLAW for timing information.

SUGARCANDYMONSTER Yes it is a very basic assessment suppose I just thought paed would take more notice of dd.
