I really want to get dd2 toilet trained, i kind of got it into my head that dd2 will be fine going to ms school in nappies but now (after comments from others/school) i really want to get her dry by september. She will happily sit on the toilet but is also happy to be wet. Any one else going for it over the summer holidays?

Yes we are!! This is our first attempt. school have been doing the toileting since September, between 10ish and 2ish and we are going to take control of that timescale in the shool hols. He still has plenty of accidents in school, so not hoping for much.
At least we are keeping the consistency.
Good luck!!

Yes same here for youngest son staring school in September who is very small for his age and is scared of falling down the toilet.

Wasuup- dd1 (AS) was scared of falling down the toilet (still is at the age of 6.5), she took a long time to toilet train but we didn't know she had AS at the time.

We keep trying with dd2, although she's happy to sit on the loo she just doesnt seem to do anything on there.

Hmm his older brother being assessed for ASD (scored high on the ADOS awaiting the consultant to decide on diagnosis)was the same. He did get dry in the day just before starting school but a year later has started to slowly regress with almost daily soiling, wetting incidents. His younger brother seems more "with it" with his communication but has difficulties with attention and concentration.

Wasuup - I guess you have considered those seats that sit on top of the toilet for kids?

silverfrog · 18/07/2010 13:54

We're going to try again with dd2. She has got the idea ok, but won't wear pants, and so always has the convenience of pull ups to rely on...

We need to get her confidence up, as she can do it when she wants to!

Sort of; DD2 can use the toilet fairly well as long as she's naked or going commando.

As neither are an option at school we are trying really hard to get her into knickers but she just refuses. I'm not sure what it is about knickers that she hates - we've tried all sorts of styles, patterns, pictures and even boys boxers but she won't wear them.

She's going into Year 2 in September and I can't see how we're ever going to get her into undies!

Thanks indigo Yes its just trying to get him to sit down on it and stay there for long enough!

I will join you..DD has just done a pee in the toilet..we had her peeing in the potty every night before her bath but decided it was best to change over to using the toilet before she got too attached to just using the potty, so we are starting again..i fear it will be a long road ahead though!!

Just thought I would add my DS is nearly 10yo and going into Y5, special school though and always has been. He has no idea when he's done anything, though we are doing body brushing around the groin area to make him more aware. We also have the pecs, pics, books, spare joggers etc.
I'm hoping to have made so much of a breakthrough that I can send him back to school on the school bus, on a plastic mat in undies lol.

We got somewhere with the peeing bit, but are still up the shit creek with the pooing bit.
DS (4.3) will basically pee on demand, and occasionally say he has to pee, but will only tell you about poo once he's already done it.
So far I seem to be the only person able to spot when he is about to do one, which is how a few times he's done a poo in the toilet.
We have done some (gross-looking) reward charts, but they don't work consistently.
Sigh.
MN (this section rather) being the only place where you can actually talk about these things...

dounutbrain · 19/07/2010 21:17

Yes would love to join you all.
We are going to try next week have tried to sit dd on the potty but she wont sit on without a nappy on.
She is 4.3 I dont think its going to work would like to hear how eveyone else gets on

jackny · 19/07/2010 21:31

Yes, we will be joining you! DS has happily used the pottie for wees since feb. but won't go near a toilet. He is still doing a poo in nappy at night. We are trying to tackle wee on toilet as he is starting Reception in September. School (MS with ASD unit) are happy to have pottie if all else fails but I would love to get it sorted.

A bit at nursery teachers - DS keeps having accidents. It turns out that, instead of just taking him to the toilet at fixed times, visual timetable and all, they ASK him: do you need to go to the toilet? FFS, we even had a meeting with the nursery about this. He'll always say no, especially if he's doing something else instead.
Sigh. Perhaps IABU - I can't really expect nursery to toilet-train DS...
