Hi

Not sure if this is just my area but ds salt informed me that their service are changing. They wont be seeing children in school that are not statemented which has me worried. Ds is due to start reception in september. He has had quite alot of therapy this year and has now will receive nothing but a set of targets which he is only getting because he on their list and will be different for new children. I hadn't planned on applying for a statement as felt he would probably not get it at this point and the main support he needed was through outside people (salt, ot, audiology) Feel like contacting school senco or salt deptment but not sure what difference it will make???

It is happening a lot ,it's the same with physios and Ot less it's in a statement most will get is a programme

roundthebend4 · 17/07/2010 09:19

I would apply for that statement asap without it your going get very little with all the cuts that are coming in

daisy5678 · 17/07/2010 20:09

Yup, same here. No SALT if not Statemented and they're thinking of making it not even for Statemented children if they have any other needs than SAL difficulties .

Not good.

bloody hell that's alarming. makes a mockery of SA plus and all the other fancy ways they have of not giving statements...... agree with roundthebend, look at applying asap.

daisy5678 · 17/07/2010 20:39

SA+ = total bollocks.

TotalChaos · 17/07/2010 20:42

oh I don't dispute that, giveme, just I thought whole point of SA plus was outside agencies were involved - so saying only statemented kids will get a service....

daisy5678 · 17/07/2010 20:44

I see what you mean. Yes, and then anyone who's on SA and applies for Statement will be knocked back by those councils who claim you can only apply for a Statement after 6 months on SA+.

Hopefully, some parents will twig that this is actually a lever for a Statement though, iyswim, as the school won't be able to meet their SAL needs without a Statement.

Makes me so and .

Are you in Kent by any chance? If so let me know. I have been dealing with lack of SALT for ages now due to a restructure. I can point you in the direction of who to pester!

roundthebend4 · 18/07/2010 10:00

Know it is coming in Hertfordshire for salt, physio and Ot ,that unless in statement theyveont come into school.even when is in statement there trying to wriggle out of it

vjg13 · 18/07/2010 10:13

It is such an appalling unfair system. So stacked against the parents. GRRR

I'm having battle on 2 fronts the Lea to provide what's in the statement even if means them having to pay privatley yet ironic they gave it in statement without me needing to fo to tribunal

and the nhs to provide the support needed for the school

That's what I was thinking too. I wonder what the point of school action plus is at all. Crappy timing to be told this as the term is nearly finished. I am in Haringey in London. At his last nursery he was on early action plus for a few months before moving to new nursery (language resource) which I was told would be thought of as equivalant to early action plus. So a total of about 18 months. Still cant see him getting a statement before he starts failing in school :-(. Gonna hunt down someone to talk to next week. Thanks
