Motor planning/processing issue

DD's old SALT was just here - she is fantastic but hasn't seen her for a while as we were put onto Hanen course instead.

She said current thinking is that DD has a real problem with processing, especially initiating activities involving motor planning (all activities but especially speech).

DD still doesn't have an ASD diagnosis though.

I know lots of people here whose children were all given the diagnosis quickly by the same doctors DD has been seeing.

DD is still getting the same support as them, thankfully.

What I am wondering is, does anyone in the know think this IS just a specific form of ASD or will she never get a diagnosis of anything specific, which is quite frustrating.

I don't know if they are saying "she has ASD of this type" or "she has a processing disorder".

Maybe it doesn't matter but I would like to know really.

She does have the "triad" of impairments but from what I could tell the SALT was saying she thinks this is caused by processing problems and might improve as they do (if they can, who knows).

I couldn't say she doesn't have ASD but at the same time she often seems like a child which other issues (admittedly severe ones)

Thanks for listening.

of course it's all complicated by her normal MRI and original clear speech so I doubt anyone could even answer me but thanks for listening anyway.

Just wondering if they are now going to go down the dyspraxia/verbal dyspraxia route.

I was also thinking about dyspraxia for your DD from your description but I've been told by my paed that they give that dx when kids are older and they can seperate out from gdd and/or ASD.

however if the symptoms fit then it would be worth treating dd like she has dyspraxia and doing a sensory diet.

It might be worth writing down your thoughts and questions in a letter to the paed (sorry to give you another letter. I'm here skiving when I should be wrting to my paed questioning why the referral to the social communication clinic is going blardy nowhere.

And t've finally finished my ranty letter to my paed as well so can finally go to bed with a clear conscience about that (tho sadly not about writing up the presentation I need to do for work).

good luck
