Usual history taking stuff really then maybe an assessment.

roundthebend4 · 13/07/2010 20:52

yeah dont expect much ds is below 1%for gross and fine motor lol been offered 6 seeesions in about 9 months time

dounutbrain · 13/07/2010 20:55

Hi dont expect to much.
We waited for about 8 months to see an OT and was hoping for a diagosis of dyspraxia but they said dd was to young to say, she is 4,3.
Dd has the same problems that you mentioned ds has.
Hope your app goes well and your OT is etter than the one we have.
How old is your ds?

Machakos · 13/07/2010 21:32

Make sure to ask them for a sensory profile assessment - it will make a huge difference if you know what your DS's 'triggers' are

xbeckyx · 13/07/2010 21:46

thankyou
Jack will be 4 in october

He was refered in march so it not been to long waiting, although feel like its going to be one of the normal see you in 6months app.
it's so frustrating sometimes, they finally realised he was delayed at 18month but did nothing until march this year.

it does mention about a development assessment being done, although the info they said was included wasnt.
i've noted a few bits down so i dont forget main ones falling over and freaks out over rain/wind, noise, cars etc

BECKY How was the OT appointment today?
Hope it went well

TheCrunchyside · 14/07/2010 22:34

Hi Becky

We have been on the assessment treadmill for 18 months. Ds is 4.5 and similar in initial dx to your ds.
Only now finding out about health issues such as aneamia etc as they didn't bother to do any blood tests till recently.

hope you get a better result

roundthebend4 · 14/07/2010 23:47

Well turns out we won't even get a programme till after ds has his block of 6 mind I waswrong on 9 months they now saying when ds goes into y2 so that's 14 months

TheCrunchyside · 14/07/2010 23:51

we pay for ot - it is 50 quid for 45 mins (and we're not flush with money). It is hard to see the impact to be honest but i coudln't bear wondering if this would be a miracle cure that we were missing out on

mycarscallednev · 15/07/2010 09:54

We had a nightmare with OT until we got referred to GOSH, where they are brilliant, and only then did we get referred to school access OT via a statement, and again she is a godsend. Seems to be a lottery over who you get and how experienced they are. Our 1st OT thought that 10 minutes of finding plastic dinosaurs in a pot of rice was perfect for fine motor delay!
We got to the point after 5 years, of researchimg our own OT but its hard work and very time consuming.

We've been on a waiting list for almost a year after the initial assessment, which was very much along the let's wait and see lines.
In the meanwhile, DS's coordination and motor planning difficulties have become very evident.
At the strike of 12 months of wait, we'll go private. But where does one find a good private OT?

roundthebend4 · 15/07/2010 15:39

Hiya,
sorry i havent replied before now

OT completely confused me, she kept saying jack's not delayed in anything but then she said hes in delayed in so an so and she sure he has sensory disorder.

tbh i gave up listening to her, we spent 90mins there mainly trying to get him to use sissors and stack bricks.

shes arranging physio as he walks on his toes, falls over all the time along with pains in his legs.
also a major buggy but other than that she wants to see him september then maybe discharge him.
so yet another profesional saying different, i dont know what to believe anymore.

Hi becky sounds as good as the OT we saw.
She said dd had poor spacial awareness and wanted someone to have some sessions with her, that was 2 months ago havnt heard anything since, phoned her but got phobbed off with excuses.
We had to play with toys too and she said dd was quite hypermobile but leaving that to pyhsio who we see about every 4 months

Hope she sorts your pyhsio app out soon.
