Hey,

just wondered if children had to have by law a set number of break periods through the day?

I am unhappy with children having to miss break periods as a punishment

I agree, I would be unhappy with DS having to miss break as a punishment.

While the school should have a behaviour policy which states what they do in what cases, it should also have an escape clause for kids with behavioural problems on and IEP.

So talk to the headteacher about the school's behaviour policy and how it relates to your childs SN. After all they wouldn't want to discriminate against him by ignoring his special needs....

there isn't a law on how many bres children should get, as if they miss 'breaktime' they are usually sitting quietly (which is sometimes what children need to cal down as oppose to a high stimulating and noisy playground) but every child is different.

why do you not want your dc to miss break time?

Ds tires very easily with his Dyspraxia. He needs a break to give the brain a rest. They have indoor breaks where they sit and chat and have time out from work.

I just feel time away from study/work is so valuable and to use it as a punishment is cruel.

well then he should still be allowed them obviously. have you spoken to school?
