My son aged 6 had this last week we have just been told that he scored highly. Is this code for he may have ASD? Got to wait for a meeting with the consultant at CAMHS to go through the results. The end of 2 years of limbo!

Wasuup, my ds had his ADOS 3 weeks ago, he scored high enough to meet fully the criteria for autism.

I was shocked when they said autism, because all the while we were told by CP 'mild asd/maybe borderline'.
They sort of explained that he scored a lot of points because he presents many symptoms/traits/characteristics (always called differents names ) and therefore meets the criteria, but none of his symptoms are severe (similar to tribunalgoer's ds)
Also his non-verbal reasoning at the cognitive test was just slightly above average (well within the top range for average), so although he meets all the criteria for autism, he is HF.

Are they just doing the ADOS? or will they do other tests alongside the ADOS?

wasuup3000 · 13/07/2010 19:21

They have looked at all his other reports (paed, salt, ep and ot), sent their own occupational therapist into assess at school, been into school to assess 3 times and have done a home visit. He is bright on gifted and talented register at school, has an uneven cognitive profile though and a diagnosis of dyspraxia, he just gets giddy, oversensitive to certain things and is impossible to have a conversation with unless he is interested, could read at 2 self taught.

hello - pretty new to all this - my ds1 poos his pants often but not always- 8 years old - asd/ hfa has been suggested - are they related? shld i talk to gp? - seeing ep on thursday.

thx

eskimorose - might be best to start a new thread as you'll get more answers that way (hit start a new thread link at the top). But yes, they can be related as it can be a sensory thing - poor body awareness - which can stop children registering the feeling of when to go. But there can, of course, be other reasons so it might be best to get it checked.

wasuup - DS did ADOS a month or so ago and scored in to the autism category but his dx was Aspergers when everything was put together.

My son 6 did the ADOS test last feb. and according to the test wasnt ASD, yet after he was refered for a more thorough assessment at a unit over a longer period of time and was diagnosed with autism last sept.

hi my sons displayed problems from being 2 and a half years old my health visitor said he shown signs of autisum but it was never followed up! when he started school they told me there was a problem, and brought in extra support, and was given a educational statement i was then told to see my gp as anybody can interact on a one to one but my son could,nt had she could not keep his concentration he then just continued to struggle in school was classed as a naughty child had hardly any education and was finally expelled from mainstream school aged 9 he was then given a adhd diognoises and medication witch did,nt improve any thing, and was sent to ebds what i was told was the best school to meet his needs he was constantly sent home daily and then was excluded for 6 months then the last week before the six week holidays they told me they could,nt meet his need he has just had a ados assesment hes 12 now,and iam wondering how long i,ll wait for the results, what they was looking for,and what happens next iv been going throu all this for so long

Hi Muva, I have been told it is ASD and ADHD traits by the keyworker (he also has a dyspraxia diagnosis)I just have to see the consultant now to sort out the final report. I hope you get some answers soon you have been through an incredibly long journey. I also have a daughter aged 11 and she is only now getting the help and support that she needs.

Over 3 years for my daughter with 2 long periods out of school one spent at a medical school after unhelpful social services started harassing us when it was the LEA and schools fault for not doing their jobs properly. It does take over your life especially the paperwork and with having 2 children to get sorted out!!

Both - Relieved that I was right but gutted because I'd rather not be. The consultants going to back us up for a statement for him. Got a date for the 15th Jan 2011 from SEND in regard to the LEAs refusal to issue a statement (got a note in lieu and some enhanced funding atm). Keyworkers going to give us ongoing support for him and our CAMHS also run a parents support group every week so we have not been given the diagnosis then left to get on with it at least.
