Following an Ed Psych evaluation indicating dyslexia and dyspraxia, my Y7 son has recently been put on School Action Plus at school. I have spoken to the SENCO a couple of times on the phone and have also briefly spoken to her at Parents Evening.

Should there be an IEP in place and should I have been involved or know more about how the school intend to manage and support him? The Ed Psych made lots of reccomendations but I don't know if they will be providing any of the things mentioned. The EP also said he should receive 25% extra time in examinations but n his recent end of year tests he did not receive any extra time.

He is getting some help writing down homework assignments in his diary but not consistently.

What should I expect from them?

Thanks

For any SEN intervention, SA, sA+ ect there shodul be an iep in place. I'd suggest you set up a formal meeting with SENCO to go throguhthe report and how/what they can implement of it. If it is very recent it may be they haven't done so yet. 25% extra time sounds a lot tbh, it may vary accoridngot type of exam (internal/external) and subject ie amount of written work rather than individual answers. If there are a number of staff teaching him recommendations may not be consistently acted upon ime.

Thanks LIZS

I think the 25% is because his working memory, processing speed, handwriting and spelling (amongst other things) are all significantly below average despit his 85th percentile general ability level.

I'll talk to the SENCO next week now that I have some idea what to expect or ask for.
