OT visiting Ds2 at school tomorrow...what will happen?

Just wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect from this visit with the OT.
Ds2 is mildly dyspraxic and is struggling at school. This is his first session with the OT. The paed has recommended 3 to start with. Have no idea what's going to happen but it's going to be about an hour...
Anyone shed light?

is it specifically for writing? usually fine motor assessments and exercises, but depends on age really?

they will look at body positioning and see if any aids will help (pencil grips/ weights etc) or can recommend a handwriting programme to be followed at school, with some strengthening/ finger exercises alongside. (handwriting without tears/ write from the start etc)

if it's wider than handwriting, then maybe suggest exercises like 'get physical' for improving motor skills (or lots of schools do brain gym type stuff)

but the first session will be to look atwhat he's struggling with and see what level of function he has, and what help is needed.

Thanks for your reply Madwoman and I'm sorry for disappearing, DS1 was ill.
Well you were right. The OT assessed his writing and visual perception and did some exercises etc.
She was really lovely and ds2 seemed to enjoy it.
Anyway, there are problems with his bilateral coordination and visual perception, so she talked to myself, his teacher and the Senco about measures that need to be put in place.
I'm thrilled!
I feel totally vindicated....
All these years I've been pushing for help and I've finally got it. It's only taken 2 schools and till yr 4!

that's fab - glad he's getting some help. usually the most difficult bit is getting the ot referral lol, once you've got one, they are brilliant

Ingles - where did you go from the other thread? We miss you. Pop back and update?

I'm kinda bubbling over with excitement ..which sounds weird when you think she's confirming problems, but it was just so fantastic talking to someone who really listened and could explain things I've worried about...
and Hello violetbloom lovely to see you..and that made me feel all warm and fuzzy
I'll come and find you.

lol, i remember finally having cp confirmed with dd2. i must have sounded like a loon - grinning from ear to ear, saying to people 'she's got cerebral palsy!' as though we'd won the pools
it was such a relief to finally have someone put a name to it - it was obvious she had lots of issues but noone would spit it out lol.
munschausens by proxy it is then

at least now he can get the help he needs - that's got to be exciting for you both!
