After 6 months of hell since my son started reception and him missing a lot of school due to hospital admissions and illness, and me complaining about the huge lack of communication on the schools side (not too mention crippling comments about my parenting), I have just filled out a CAF form, which i was told would mean all professionals involved with my son would communicate together and with me better. The school meetings and hospital admissions have wrecked my nerves so much that the doc gave me betablockers to take before school meetings as i sweat and shake so much , its only because theyve made me feel so inadequate.

Had meeting with mental health nurse today and she said that there would be a big meeting about how to meet my sons needs at school, mainly that hes behind a lot and the school say they havent got the staff for 1:1

What can i expect please if any one knows, she also said about the single point something , think it could have been something beginning with O?. Thanks.x

Hi.

I filled in a CAF form for DD 4 (still at preschool)last autumn as i'm trying to get support sorted for starting school.

I found the form very timeconsuming and upsetting to complete - seemed to be geared to children who were at risk and very intrusive.

Upshot has been a TAC meeting - team around child- with us, nursery and ed psychologist. TAC plan was done and everyone involved with DD copied in so in theory everyone knows where we are up to.

Not sure where it will go from here as the plan was done on the basis DD got into our chosen school and she didn't.

Hi I am a SENCo. A CAF is designed to get everyone together when there are multiple agencies working with a child. At the meeting targets are set and a lead practitioner whose responsibility it is to chase people. It is aimed at children who are at risk as it was introduced following on from the victoria columbie case.

benandoli - I don't think CAFS are aimed at chn that are at risk - that's a generalisation and sadly that's what puts parents off.

Thanks for all your comments, well its good to know that communication between everyone involved with my son will be more organised because up until now i have felt totally left out of the loop. My son certainly isnt at risk, lol, he has a very rare medical condition and the repeat hospitalisations have impacted on his behaviour. Ive got CAMHS again on 14th April, so ill see what they say. Son was in hospital again (planned admission) last week with me so missed another week off school, hopefully thats it for 6months or so now
