Advice on Books for Dyslexic Children

Can anybody give me any ideas as to what books a 10 year old dyslexic boy might enjoy reading. He loved the Captain Underpants books but these are too young for him now, and currently will only read and re-read the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. He finds these easy to follow because of the lines on the pages and the pictures break the page up too. Does anybody know anyother books for boys that are similarly easy to read?

You have to get books by the publisher barrington stoke They have loads of books on offer including a wide selection from Jeremy Strong and Terry deary.

They are printed with dyslexics in mind, with wide spaced lines, creamy coloured paper etc. They even give a reading age and reading ability age, so there are even books for teenagers with the reading ability of a 7 year old.

My DS (10) hates reading anything but has read a few of these books. He especially enjoyed the Jeremy Strong books.

Has he tried reading with a ruler under the line. DS started using a ruler about that age and read the Harry Potter books with it

Thanks for the tip. I know Barrington Stoke and buy lots - but I haven't tried any Jeremy Strong. I'll give them a go.

Yes, we do the ruler under the line, but Harry Potter is beyond his abilities. Too many complicted names...I live in hope though!

Henry Winkler (The Fonz from Happy Days) is himself dyslexic and has co-written some childrens' story books. Your son may like to read these (they are readily available on amazon.co.uk).
