DD1 is in year 5 and we have been told to look at secondary schools now, paying attention to MLD schools. Been to see one today who said her levels are borderline, but she will clearly struggle in MS. Her levels are 1a,2b,2a, but this is while she is well suported at her primary school. We are waiting for a EP assessment in April but we are stuck atm as we don't know which way to turn...

Some children with MLD cope well with support in MS and some with higher measured ability do better in MLD special schools. If your daughter is borderline but people are saying she'd be better in a special school, they may well be right.
The difference is less to do with precise measures of ability, such as IQ, and more to do with how she learns. A good MLD school should enable her to feel part of the class and able to join in with all activities rather than needing an adult support assistant to tap into some of the work. She should be able to have work at her level and delivered through more practical means. She should have access to additional courses in life-skills training, supported work experience and vocational qualifications that may be less available in MS.
So I'd maybe approach it by looking at where she'd be happiest, most included and prepared for life after school.
