last term i asked for dd1 to be assessed for possible dyslexia as have concerns.

she is now back on an IEP after some starting assessments have shown she doesnt klnow the name of letters.

under concerns it says

slow progress in improving reading and writing skills

differculty with split digraphs- a-spelit-e etc (what does that mean?)
family history of SpLD (remind me what this means)

it says 'School covering all additional needs using Lexia for assessment ansd identification. (what does that mean)

will speak to dd1 teacher about it all of course, but fior now, i just need some help udnerstanding al lthis jargon.

digraph is (I think) where 2 letters make one sound - so the ee in sweet or the ea in read for example.

a split digraph is where the 2 letters that make the one sound have other letters in between them the a-e in pane for example or the i-e in fine (without the e would be short vowel sounds

SpLD specific learning difficulties (not sure here but seems to make sense?)

Lexia is software to help with reading I think - from a quick Google - so they have a means of identifying what the problems may be and what support she needs

You might know split digraph by its 'old' name - magic e. (words like 'like', 'name', 'smile', 'tube' etc)

SpLD - Specific learning difficulties - usually refers to dyslexia.

Lexia is a 'fun' program that adapts itself to the specific needs of your child so she will work through it at a pace that works for her.

Does your daughter know letter sounds?
She doesn't actually need to know letter names in order to read and write they are just something we use but in reality not that important in the process.

If the school means she doesn't know letter sounds then it is odd they are concerned with "split diagraphs" at this point my priority would be single letters.

As has been said already Lexia is a phonics/reading programme that can work really well to improve reading.
Good Luck
