Has anyone's dc had an Ed Psych assessment and

found it has revealed less of an issue than previously supposed ? Just arranged one for ds (10) who may or may not have a processing problem or learning disorder - he has motor skills and sequencing issues for which he receives OT - but achieves reasonable academic results. What is in their remit to diagnose and recommend ?

Out of curiosity, was this an LEA EP or an independent one?

The reason I asked was that, in my experience, an LEA EP tends to almost hide any problems. I have had independent EP reports too. They are very thorough and excellently written. If there are problems, they will find them. An independent EP will literally state everything that they find and they can make any recommendations that they feel would benefit the child. They are not constrained by the rules and regulations of the LEA.

That's a good outcome Riven. tbh I'm torn between wanting to understand what makes ds tick in order to perhaps help him achieve his potential with more targetted support, and wanting the concerns dismissed .

DC is schedule for an assessment with the Ed Psych in September - now I may be cynical, but if it is a Local Education Authority person doing the assessment, then I suspect that it is in the LEA's best interests NOT to find too much wrong, and thus avoid the costs of SEN teaching.....
