Here you'll find advice from parents and teachers on special needs education.

Would you expect this to appear in an EHC Plan?

DC4 (13) has an EHC Plan. The annual review is due next week. I spoke to his school last week to tell them he has been diagnosed with a physical condition which needs conservative management. His school can easily implement the basic treatments and DC4 can do them himself.

However, DC4 is also unlikely to do these himself unless he is expressly told to; he’ll also need to be removed from class to do them twice per day.

The senco says that this doesn’t need to go in his EHC Plan as it’s something they’d do for any student. I can see his point but it’s a condition that affects DC4 a lot and without support to treat it, it’s not going to get any better for him.

I have letters from DC4’s doctor outlining the condition and treatments. Is the senco right?

All needs and provision should be in the EHCP. The specifics of what you are talking about (not asking you to disclose on here) will determine whether it should go in B/F (special educational needs/special educational provision) or C/G (health care needs/health care provision).

At least 2 weeks prior to the AR meeting, updated advice and information should have been circulated. This includes any evidence you have. Has this happened and did you share the supporting evidence?

An Individual Healthcare Plan may also be required (sometimes called an IHCP or IHP) and/or an intimate care plan.
