Help! Sensory ideas for DS and feet!

DS has huge sensory issues around shoes, he has to have them feeling as tight as they will possibly go. Every week I’m having to buy a new pair as when he’s worn them a few times he says they then feel too big, regardless of how much we try to tighten them. He is wearing the correct size. I’m at a loss as to what to do as it’s causing such huge meltdowns. Anybody had the same and found anything that helps?

You could try adding an insole once the shoes start feeling loose to him

Have you tried compression socks?

Has DS had a sensory OT assessment and does he have ongoing sensory OT support?

How are DS’s wider levels of anxiety and overwhelm?

Compression socks might help as PP says
Look into Piedro boots. These are frequently worn for stability and to aid walking and correct gait. They can also provide sensory input.

Some shoe fitting services have someone with additional training, though we are in a large town and the main one here is now closed.
Our daughter really struggled with footwear when she was young especially school shoes ( ASD SPD Hypermobility)

The local shop were so good and used to take her into the stockroom to look at styles to bring out. Their specialist used to watch her walk and shave something off the sole to help to correct her gait.
Hush puppy do children’s shoes with different insoles to adjust fit. Look on their website.

Will school allow him to wear some preferred tight fitting shoes or slippers for indoor use? Could he use a weighted lap blanket wrapped round his feet for input at home or in school. Have you tried a textured wobble board?
Also second an OT sensory assessment.
