Has anyone found out early if their child has got their 2026 yr 7 intake?

Hello,

I am wondering if anyone has found out their year 7 placement yet for a child with an EHCP?

My SEN Coordinator (LA) never responds to me, I am unsure which school(s) they have contacted.

I know a few who have. Most haven’t/won't have yet though.

Following the phase transfer review, you should have been given the opportunity to comment on the amendments. At that point, you should have been given the opportunity the state your preferred placement. Did that happen?

If you have suspicions of who the LA has or may/may have consulted, you can contact the schools directly to ensure they have an accurate picture. If you are unsure, some people contact many possible schools.

Thank you @2x4greenbrick .
I know two people who have got their preferred schools but they are under a different LA to me. I've not been able to get hold of my LA Sen Coordinator for any update(s) for months, so I was panicking a little.

I only got to select one preferred school- and I'm unsure if they've consulted with them.

I know of only one school they contacted and that School called me up, it's not a local school so I was a little thrown by that - I politely told them they couldn't meet needs due to the size of the school (she's currently in a very small school and had to move from a larger primary because she wasn't coping).

When you say you haven’t heard anything for months, how long are we talking? When did you have the phase transfer review meeting? Following the phase transfer review did you receive the amendment notice? Once you have responded to the amendment notice, many won’t hear again until the LA finalise in Feb. Don’t panic.

You only need to state one preferred placement anyway.

You don’t need to know which schools have been consulted for certain. You can contact any you suspect may have been/may be without knowing for definite.

Does the EHCP state DD needs a small (small being defined) school?

I haven't heard from then since August last year - assuming this is normal? - they amended her EHCP although I am unsure if its a phase transfer?
This is my first time going through the process, and the LA seem to be so unhelpful so I feel a little lost.

Her online portal says the following: The EHC Plan must be reviewed by 06 Jun 2026. This is the date by when the local authority must publish their decision on the outcome of the review. For phase transfer reviews, this is the date by when an amended EHC Plan must be issued.

To meet this deadline, it's recommended the next review be started no later than 14 Feb 2026
Next phase transfer review has not been set. The Case co-ordinator or designated person on behalf of the education setting should enter this information.

Thank you for confirming regarding the placement.

I asked for them to mention the small school need; however they never added it in - they didn't actually add anything I suggested in. We've had 4 SEN Coordinators in a year and a half, which has been confusing and stressful.

I'm unsure if this is normal?

If DD is starting secondary in September, it is a phase transfer. You need to contact the LA urgently. You should have had a phase transfer review meeting last term i.e. the autumn term of Y6. The amended EHCP for phase transfer must be finalised by the 15th Feb of Y6.

Unfortunately, small needs to be in F and defined.

Once the phase transfer EHCP is finalised, you will be able to appeal if you disagree with it.

Reading IPSEA and SOSSEN’s websites will help you understand the process and the law better.

Thank you!

She has got into a Mainstream School which cannot meet her needs. I am looking to appeal.

The letter states that 'You have the right to make Representation(s) within 15 days of receiving this letter regarding the proposed amendment(s) - Do you know what this means? - Does this mean I can challenge the decision now, or would I need to wait until the Final Amended EHCP?

Thank you in advance!

'You have the right to make Representation(s) within 15 days of receiving this letter regarding the proposed amendment(s)

This is about the draft. When you get the draft/amendment notice, you get the chance to comment on it. You can propose any amendments required, referencing your evidence. This is when you get the chance to state your preferred placement.

The draft must not have a placement or type of placement named in section I. Section I must be blank in drafts.

If you only have the draft, you can’t appeal yet. You need the finalised EHCP.
