Hi all,

Im sure this has been asked before but I want an up to date picture of where is best to take my son for a private assessment. We have been on the wait list for close to 2 years and are due to move soon so I really need to just bite the bullet and go private.

Please tell me of any places you have been and how you found the experience. I am open to this being in person or an online consultation.

Thanks so much!

You could look at Dr Maite Ferrin.

If you/DC would want to try medication if diagnosed and continuing private prescriptions would be an issue, be aware not all GPs will take over shared care for those diagnosed privately. Many won’t now. This is even more important if you might move GPs when you move.

Thanks so much for responding. I will look into this. Medication will certainly be something that we will be discussing. I was unaware some GPs will no longer do shared care!

Dr Nwogbogu at Chelsea psychology clinic has been outstanding for my 5 year old. Not cheap though!

Are his school supportive and will they make a decent effort to fill in the paperwork for a private provider? If not then save your money!

Thanks for your replies. I really do appreciate the help. Yes the school are very supportive. They filled out all of the paperwork for me when I referred him via the NHS. They are kind of pushing me to get an official diagnosis as he has become disruptive in class lately. In the morning he is great, working well and involving himself, pushing himself work wise, but by the afternoon he is really struggling to keep himself in his seat and we (his teacher and myself) have tried multiple things to combat this, but it seems by the afternoon the school setting is just a bit much for him. I am reluctant to even put him on medication but I really want for him to feel settled within himself before he begins secondary school.
