Hi all, im a long time lurker and first time poster.
So just come home from my first parents evening of the year to find out my sons new year 6 teacher is totally unaware of his diagnosed Tourettes syndrome and anxiety. Last years teacher in same school was fully aware. I am really concerned as the nature of his condition could have meant him being reprimanded for behaviour/language. Teacher now obviously knows but should I tackle school in the morning? Not sure if the anger I'm feeling is justified

I would bring it to the attention of the SENCO. Via email of you have their email address.

I think you should contact the school and the SENCo in particular. I wouldn’t go in all guns blazing, but I would express disappointment that vital information about your child has been missed and may have a negative impact on him.

Is your child on the SEN register? If you don't know, I think you should ask.

Diagnoses are strange, because the SEND code of practice is clear that diagnosis doesn't necessarily mean you should be counted as SEN. But if your boy has tourettes, I think he should be on the SEN register before going to secondary. It would make it more likely that his teachers would have his needs flagged to them.
