Dyslexia secondary school

Hi there
My son is in Y5, he is dyslexic, suspected ADHD.
What are the criteria and what do I need to do to have a dyslexia secondary school on his EHCP?
Is there anyone that can explain how does it work? I was thinking about Burlington School in Tooting.
Thank you

Because Burlington House is wholly independent, you need an offer of a place. They can’t be named against their will. You will also need to show the LA’s proposed school(s) can’t meet needs &/or it isn’t unreasonable public expenditure. And you may have to appeal. Be aware, depending on how the suspected ADHD presents, Burlington House may not offer a place.

Thank you so much, so I will contact the school to see if, in case, they can meet my son's needs. What if they give me a school I don't like? Do I need to send my son there or I can refuse? Sorry for all the questions but everything is new to me. I don't even have an EHCP yet.
Thank you

If an EHCP is issued and you don’t agree with the placement named, you can appeal or you can make your own arrangements (e.g. via EHE or funding an independent school).

Hey we just went through this with La and Burlington house. If you want to message.

My son in yr 6 has had a recent diagnosis for ADHD and autism. We are happy to receive an offer at our local co ed state school in Streatham but I ( mum) seriously worry about how he is going to cope with a big secondary school. He has struggled the last 2 years at state primary school
and is “ scared” to go into school 4/5 days a week.
I have seen Burlington house has opened in Tooting which is very local to me.
Anyone have experience of this school? I think it’s massively expensive. We have submitted an EHCA but waiting to hear whether we get an assessment.
Very worrying time. Anyone with info to support London state schools for neurodiversity or Burlington house worth a massive family sacrifice/LA help requests.

Has he got any SplD. There is 2 Burlington houses( same school but diff sites ) I only have experience of the other site but the same speciality and my daughter is autistic and has struggle with the lack of training with those who have autism.

You will also really struggle if any local maintained school like the one you said says they can meet need to get the cost funded by the LA

@BeOpenRubySheep have you spoken to Burlington House? Will they offer a place? Although some of their DC have ASD and ADHD, it depends on how their needs present because that isn’t the school’s main specialism.

Whether it is worth the fees, depends on the child’s needs, IMO. Can you afford to fund the fees the whole time? There are no guarantees you will get the school named in an EHCP. Even if you do, it may take an appeal. It is possible to get an independent school named even if a state school says they can meet needs, but if you have to appeal, that won’t be resolved by September. You might not even have an EHCP by September, let alone one naming an independent school.

Have you spoken to the SENCO of the offered school?

Is the LA sticking to the EHCP timescales?
