Sort of. But not in the same way and exactly the same work as a SENCO in a school. It will also depend on your specific knowledge and experience.
Some APs hire staff for SENCO roles. Some of these roles are remote. Some are a mixture. Some are all in person.
Some SENCOs have set themselves up as independent specialist teachers who will provide consultancy work to schools covering things like observations, paperwork and meeting attendance. However, this wouldn’t typically be fully remote. Some of these will also support parents with EHCP paperwork, report writing, assessments, attending meetings, etc.
Some SENCOs have become advocates who support with things like EHCNA requests, meeting attendance, report reading, appeals. However, a good advocate will have knowledge and experience beyond what the majority of primary SENCOs will have.
One role becoming more common is EOTAS/EOTIS co-ordinators. To oversee, lead, and co-ordinate EOTAS/EOTIS packages. These roles are varied and depend on the individual package. Some of these coordinators are SENCOs. No EHCNA paperwork though, as these DC already have EHCPs. These roles require someone with a significant amount of experience because they are key to the successful running of an EOTAS/EOTIS package.
Not an exhaustive list, but to give you an example of the role for 2 of my DC, the co-ordinator covers things like:
Termly MDT meetings - e.g. arranging the meetings, summary report writing beforehand, prep for meetings, attendance and chairing the meeting, admin afterwards.
Updated advice and information prior to AR.
AR - e.g. arrange, admin beforehand, report writing, prep for AR meeting, chairing meeting, admin afterwards.
Recruitment (jointly with me) of staff.
Organising timetables.
Booking professionals/sessions.
Reading post session summaries from all the other professionals involved in the package and acting on them where required.
Liaising with me, staff, LA, other agencies involved, payroll company.
Risk assessments and undertakes the safeguarding/data protection role.
In connection with other professionals, writes support plans.
Managing memberships, subscriptions, tech, equipment, resources/sundries budget, enrichment/PfA budget, insurances, training for staff, CPD for staff, etc.
Booking exams, ensuring EAA are arranged, making sure the rooms for home invigilation meet the requirements.
Ensuring the EHCP is being followed.
Ensuring the PfA provision covers everything necessary.
In conjunction with the payroll company, acts as HR for staff.
Manages the budget - income/expenditure, invoices, receipts, mileage, statements, checking pre-paid provision has been provided, audits, etc.
There is a pot of hours any professionals can use for advice from other professionals within the team. Sometimes the lead professional is involved in these hours.
