Do you let your school refusers go out with their friends?

My 12 year old is unable to go into school at the moment, she’s saying she’d like to home educate but we’ve not got anything organised yet. Her friends knock for her on the way home from their day at school and I’ve been letting her go out for a few hours.
My gut instinct says keeping up her contact with her school friends is a good thing but I’m not sure if I should be letting her go out while she’s not managing to make it into school?
She has an Autism diagnosis but is not in burnout and at the moment is happy and regulated and wanting to socialise, she just can’t handle the mainstream school environment.

Yes, I would maintain the social interactions, social contact and leaving the house.

If DD is unable to attend school, is alternative provision in place? Does DD have an EHCP?

No Ehcp but she has tutors coming next week, she’s says happy to do the learning and has been wanting to get started on some work but just isn’t able to go into the school environment at the moment

Request an EHCNA. On their website, IPSEA has a model letter you can use.

LAs often provide part time education for DC unable to attend school, make sure it is full time and a broad and balanced curriculum not just English and Maths,

Yes 100% I would let her out with her friends. DD was the same. She's 16 now, no GCSEs and very isolated so we facilitate her getting out in the world in any way we can x
