Home adaptations to secondary uniform fastenings

Just been to get DD's secondary uniform. She's not hugely sensitive around fabric or textures, so that's not an issue (the fabrics are really yuck though), but we have dyspraxia to go with the ASD and she's rubbish at fiddly little buttons and catches. Which the skirt and trousers have with stiff fabric (shirts are just about ok and thankfully there's no tie so we can finally put that to bed).

Any tips for buttons and hook trouser catches we can do ourselves? I thought about replacing the thread with elastic thread for the buttons. I don't think anyone is going to offer her help after PE now.

Her EHCP does say she can have uniform adaptations if she needs to but it's just the fastening and I think she'd rather not stand out too much.

Oh and best elasticated laces tips?! The ones we've been using are a bit rubbish. Bonus points if it's not obvious. She can just about tie them but it takes ages and sometimes she forgets how.

Help to dress can be provided. It should be included in the EHCP if it is required.

We didn’t find any elasticated laces that worked for DS1’s needs.

Depending on the style of trousers/skirt, would removing the button and replacing the fastening with velcro work?

With the shirt, DD may find it helpful to only undo enough buttons to allow her to take it off like a T-shirt.

Its not in her ehcp now and I dont think she needs it really (she dresses herself every day at the moment and is a swimmer, so it all happens, just slowly). So really just trying to make it a bit more frictionless for her. If it's a problem we can review at AR time.

Velcro is a good idea and should work for the skirt. Not sure about the trousers as it's one of those hook things but will see if it can be removed without leaving a hole.
