I have also posted this is in chat.

Good evening.
Sorry for rambling if I do.
So, my son is 12, he is Autistic, ADHD with ODD and sensory.
He attends a SEN school which specialises in SEMH run by the LA
It's not the best high school but due to LA funding , it's all he can get into.
He is under CAMHs and a referral has been sent into Forensic CAMHs, which is still under review.
Today I was called at 1.20 to come to school to collect DS, no details were known, just that the head had asked reception to call me to collect DS.
I turned up, 3 police cars were in the car park, head, class teacher and other members of staff were around the car park area. 3 students including my DS were on the school roof.
Ive had issues with DS, which has now seen me have to hide all knives in the safe at home which school are aware of, especially in the last 2 weeks.
School told me that DS had been on the roof for 2 hours, before calling me.
Once he was down he was arrested for criminal damage and brandishing a knife at home.
The police said that the custody sergent would refuse him into custody but the shock factor of arresting him may shock him into maybe changing his ways.
Im hopeful that this is the case. He is getting a referral for the youth offending team to work with him regarding his behaviour in public and knife crime.
We have Early help hub working with us. But what I want to know is, will SS be called? Im not bothered if they are, as I think it could be extra help with DS and support for me. But it wasn't a question I asked and I wished I had have asked.
TIA

I may well be wrong but I think due to the nature of what happened (knife) yes SS will probably be called. I wouldn’t worry too much if they are, sometimes they can actually be really helpful people just tend to think the worst when they are involved presuming the only thing they do is remove children from parents care however not the case they can also support in many other ways.

@WineandMeI would ask @MNHQto move this over to the SN section where you might find some MNers with experience Flowers

WineandMe · 26/04/2025 09:13

Yeah could be good. How do I ask for that?

If you report your own post a box will appear for comments and you can ask @MNHQin there Smile

How on earth did the pupils manage to access the roof in the first place? I would be asking serious questions about that. Also request an early review of DS’s EHCP because he clearly needs more support and supervision than he is receiving.

Is DS on ADHD medication?

Children’s Services will be notified, but you may not be contacted since you already have involvement from services. However, you can request social care assessments yourself - contact has model letters you can use.

It maybe sounds like you don’t think this school is the right fit for DS? Is there is another placement that is your preference?

WineandMe · 28/04/2025 15:46

Hi. Yes hes on adhd meds.

Well there were 4 students on the roof. It's a common occurrence at the school at the moment.

His behaviour has gotten alot worse since he started there last year. Ehcp review hasn't long since been done.

I think he would be better at a different SEN school but its getting the school to say and prove they cant meet his needs in order for senart to try moving him.

Request a medication review.

I would be raising serious concerns about why and how pupils are regularly accessing the roof.

Following the AR meeting, have you had the outcome? What further support was discussed?

You don’t need the school to say they can’t meet needs and ultimately you don’t need SENDART to agree, either. You can appeal - you should either already have the right of appeal or will do so shortly.

WineandMe · 28/04/2025 16:42

Outcome??

StrivingForSleep · 28/04/2025 16:44

Following the AR meeting, the LA must inform you of the what they intend to do, e.g. propose to maintain as is, propose to amend, propose to cease to maintain.

WineandMe · 28/04/2025 16:46

Well ive got a reintegration meeting Thursday at 9am at school when DS goes back to school after his exclusion. Im sure I'll find something out there going forward what they intend to do id like to hope anyway.

The reintegration meeting won’t provide you with the LA’s decision. When was the AR meeting? Is this the first AR? Reading IPSEA and SOSSEN’s website will help you understand the process.

WineandMe · 28/04/2025 16:49

His review was done in February. Don't think they do another now would they?? Or would they? Ive got camhs coming out on friday too to discuss the school situation as his camhs worker wants him out of that school too.

So following the AR meeting in February have you had the outcome? You should have. An early review can happen now. However, if you have the right of appeal you could just appeal.

Do you have it in writing that the CAMHS worker doesn’t think the current school is appropriate.

WineandMe · 28/04/2025 16:54

No i don't have it in writing.
The annual review was just the same as before, staying at that school, 1-1 in place...yet where was his 1-1 when he climbed onto a roof!?

StrivingForSleep · 28/04/2025 17:01

Follow up verbal conversations with emails to create a paper trail as evidence.e

So you have formally received the LA’s decision to maintain as is following the AR meeting? If so, when did you receive this? Unless the LA was very quick off the mark (unlikely), you have the right of appeal now if you want to appeal.

Is the 1:1 detailed, specified and quantified in F of the EHCP? Or is it vague and woolly? For example, does it include wording such as “access to”, “would benefit from”, “regular”, “up to”, “or equivalent”, “opportunities for”, “as appropriate”, “would be useful/helpful”, “such as”, “e.g.”, “etc.”, “as required”, “as advised”…
