Draft ehcp SLT

DD is 5 and we are in the draft stage of her ehcp. Part of her provision specified is that she will receive 20x minimum of 30 minute direct sessions with a speech and language therapist per year with a TA present during the sessions.

Can this be done in a mainstream or is this more likely a ARP?

That is common provision in mainstream or ARPs. It is good that they've specified a TA must be present. Does it then say that the TA will provide further sessions/support DD during the school day using strategies modelled by the SLT?

•Direct sessions will take place with a teaching assistant (TA) present in at least 15
sessions, so that the SLT can demonstrate and model strategies and activities which are
then delivered by a teaching assistant for a total of 1 hour in school per week.
• Sessions will address areas of speech, language and communication needs identified in
the current long- and short-term outcomes: social understanding receptive language and
narrative skills.
SLT’s Indirect Input
• The Speech and Language Therapist will gather information in school through
discussion with school staff, observations and questionnaires (1 ½ hours per year).
• The Speech and Language Therapist jointly devises targets with school staff and
parents to support speech, language, and communication needs. The targets will be
included in ** Individual Education Plan or equivalent and will be jointly reviewed
twice a year (1 ½ hours per year).
• The Speech and Language Therapist trains education staff on interventions to address
the targets and to ensure that these targets can be integrated across the curriculum
and practised in context. (1 hour per term)
• The Speech and Language Therapist will provide a report for the annual review of the
Education Health and Care Plan (2 hours per year)
• The speech and language therapist advises language trained, school-based staff such
as Elklan TA, who implement targeted language and communication support 1:1 and/or
small group for 1 hour per week. (1 hour per term)
• The Speech and Language Therapist offers agreed training, support and advice for
education staff who are with ** every day to use skills and strategies required to
meet her speech, language and communication needs in the classroom and in the
wider school community. (1 hour per term)

That sounds really specific, which is good. Based on this alone, mainstream or ARP could meet those needs, but needs in other areas may change that.

SALT can be provided in mainstream. On its own, what you quote wouldn’t rule out mainstream. Depending on the rest of the EHCP.

Whilst the wording is far, far better than many drafts, it could still be improved. For example, ‘small groups’ needs defining, there’s no time for attending the AR meeting, will provide training… rather than ‘offers’, ‘school staff’ and ‘school-based staff’ is who? The receptionist? Amend ‘such as’ to ‘including’.
