Self Care Tips for Busy Autism Mama

Hey lovely people,

I’m approaching the big 3-0 and starting to feel like I need to give myself a little more care and love — inside and out. I’m a mum of two amazing little boys who are both currently on the autism pathway, so needless to say… time is very limited and my energy is often running low!

Between nursery runs, appointments, sensory play, and the everyday chaos, I’ve noticed I’ve slowly slipped down my own priority list. But lately, I’ve been thinking — I want to feel good in my skin again. Not just for looks, but for my confidence, my health, and just that small spark of me that sometimes gets lost in the motherhood whirlwind.

So I’m reaching out to ask: what are your go-to self-care tips, especially if you’re short on time? I’d love to hear about:

Natural or low-tox skincare or haircare products that actually work

Affordable body care rituals (lotions, oils, dry brushing — anything that feels luxurious but realistic!)

Any daily habits that help you stay grounded and youthful — even if it’s just 5 minutes

Natural remedies or supplements you swear by for skin, hair, energy or mood

I’m also open to little routines that help you feel like you again, even in the middle of a hectic day. I know there’s no magic solution, but if you’ve found something that helps you look or feel a little more vibrant, I’d love to hear it.

Sending love to all the other mamas walking a similar path — we deserve to glow too!

Hello, just wanted to say that I joined the local carers group.

They sometimes offer treatments and coffee mornings, as well as groups and seasonal classes or activities like art, crafts, yoga for example.

I haven’t had time to do many of the activities but I signed up for a massage one. Honestly I really appreciated having a whole body massage and I felt so lightened after it. It was nice to have that time just to myself.

I often have a nice soak in the bath, but this opportunity has only been as my kids have got older. That helps me to relax and feel grounded.

Hope you manage to find something nice, whether it’s something you find, or from joining a local support group.

Do you have a garden or balcony?

Growing plants and flowers yourself is like self care. Your boys may like it too? My dd7 is on ASD pathway also and used to love collecting flowers with me but she more interested in bees, butterflies and birds now.

It’s relaxing to spend time outside, taking cuttings and popping in a little vase. It’s my ‘me’ time.
