Ehcp, secondary school named, what next

Hi just looking for anyone that may know about this stuff. My son has just had his ehcp with our chosen school named for a start in September (currently in Yr 6 so will be moving to ss y7). I originally had to apply for a mainstream place in the normal way as a back up, my case worker has said I need to tell the mainstream school that he won't be attending (I assumed they would tell them) but I'm unsure whether I need to tell them now or wait until I have heard from the ss and they have confirmed his place? Otherwise he may be left with no place at all if something goes wrong? I also wanted to know if it is just a case of me waiting for the ss to get in touch with me now? I'm kind of just sat here a little lost as to what happens next, I have emailed my case worker but it takes her a while to reply and I get really anxious easily 🙈
Thanks

As the local authority have named the specialist secondary school in your son's EHCP, I would regard his place as confirmed. The local authority would have had to consult with the specialist secondary school beforehand to confirm that it could meet your son's needs.

I imagine the specialist secondary school will send out transition instructions later on this academic year. I would have thought it will be sometime after Easter. Why not get in touch with the specialist secondary school to find out when this will be?

The school named in the EHCP overrides any offer made via the normal admissions process. You don’t have to inform the MS, the LA should. If you want to inform them, you can. You can do this whenever you want. If the SS is named in the EHCP, you will not be left without a school place. The school must admit.

The SS should contact you eventually, but some don’t until quite late, so I would contact them to discuss transition because your DC might need more than will be possible if they contact you later in the year.
