Hi,

My 8yr old daughter has autistic traits and is dyslexic. She is excellent at masking and all the behaviours are mainly at home. One of the things my daughter does is have the need to suck on something like her top, sleeve, teddy arm, blanket etc. It’s mainly at home or the evening she does this. Does anyone else’s child do this? I need to find a substitute for her to suck instead of her clothes/toys and wondered if anyone can recommend something. Thanks

Google chewelry. Despite the name, it works well for DC to suck.

Please don’t be offended by this but dog toys can be used by sensory seekers. They were recommended by a Sensory Integration specialist on a course I once attended.
Obviously you need to buy quality branded ones not cheap replicas. If it is material she likes to suck maybe look at something like these. Probably available on Amazon. The rabbit ones have ears to suck on too.

Hi just wanted to offer solidarity, my son does this, he's chewed through jumpers, coat collars etc. I thought it was a stress response to school but he does it with blankets when watching tv and totally relaxed. We haven't tried any alternatives yet. I also remember chewing on my own school cardi cuffs and buttons!
