Should I look into this?

My 3 year old daughter has always been full of energy, funny and bonkers but recently I’ve been worried that some of her behaviours might be markers for SEN and a stranger brought this up to ask if she is neurodivergent.

She does things like often does a strange voice like Gru from the minions when she is excited and makes noises like a cat.

She is generally ok with noise but struggles with things like hand dryers or alarms and will pat her hands on her ears.

She can also hit and scratch when she’s over excited and occasionally will tap herself on the head.

overall she is fine at school and nursery and has made good friends. She plays nicely and is emotionally intelligent but when she’s over excited she just does some odd things.

is this normal 3yo behaviour or something we should keep an eye on?

I would note everything down because you will end up forgetting things and see how she goes. It could be her age or it could be ASD. It's often not clear this young. One of the things that was picked up by a SEND lady who thought he was autistic was that DS put his hands over his ears when things were very loud - he never had a problem with fireworks though for some reason.

By all means, keep an eye, but what you describe can be typical in some 3y/o’s.
