Child 5, mental health and school help!

My child is 5 currently going through the process of adhd/asd currently going to salt weekly. In mainstream school, teachers say significant speech but they don’t think anything else is wrong they thing everything is linked to speech (but I have always understood him etc)
my child doesn't want to go to school keeps saying how hard they are trying to fit in and be like the other children but it’s getting hard
i am worried there mental health is going to get effected by this because no 5 year old should feel like that I wish he would be himself as he is perfect the way he is. He has also said on many occasions to me and he’s speech therapist how the teachers don’t listen or understand him.
I am currently viewing other schools as I want him out asap but I don’t want to send him back to school can I do anything in the meantime so he can stay home with me but it doesn’t go against us?
Can I go to the gp for a mental health note ?
I'm unsure what to do at the moment but I have tried to speak to school having meetings but it’s like talking to a brick wall. They wre also refusing to help with ehcp which I know I can apply myself but I heard most Likely won’t get anywhere without school being on board. I have through about going private to help with the diagnosis to see if they would help but again heard a lot of nhs don’t use private and still have to go through nhs so I’m just stuck.

Request an EHCNA yourself. You do not need the school’s support.

If DS is unable to attend school because of illness, including mental illness, then you can inform the school DS will be absent like you would if he was physically unwell. The absence must be regarded as authorised. Evidence should not be routinely requested unless the authenticity of the illness is genuinely and reasonably questioned. For longer absences, the school may try to ask for evidence, though. Not all GPs will do letters/notes for school absence.

When did DS turn 5?

The school, LA and NHS can’t lawfully have a blanket policy of refusing to accept an independent assessment just because it is independent. However, for things like ADHD medication, the GP doesn’t have to take on shared care.

Support in schools is based on needs, not diagnosis. The school must make their best endeavours to meet DS’s needs.

@BrightYellowTrain thankyou! Currently he’s off for mental health reasons and I have a few school viewings. I have applied for an ehcna and will hear back within 6 weeks.
I am now looking privately to get him seen as the nhs wait list to be seen by the paediatrician is very long in the area. My question is I know they will send questionnaires for me to fill out and as well as the school but could my sons speech and language therapist or he’s clubs teacher fill it out rather then he’s school? (As they see the same side as me and because he won’t be in that school much longer) Or would that not be allowed?
thankyou

That depends on the provider. The provider should consider the SALT’s opinion anyway.

If DS is unable to attend school and he turned 5 last year, the LA has a duty to ensure he still receives a suitable full-time education. If he has turned 5 this year, the LA has the power to provide such provision but doesn’t have a duty to because he isn’t yet CSA.
