Sen Plan not being followed

My DS was diagnosed with adhd and autism recently. My DS is really struggling in School and relationships along with other aspects.

We set up an information sharing meeting the Sendco was late we had to ring to find them. My DS then had a plan put into place and it hasn't been followed I've had to chase and ask multiple times when stuff is happening or why it isn't.

There has been incidents where the School have tried to force DS to wear ear Defenders which has upset DS. There has been meetings promised with DS and Sendco and they didn't do as promised and didn't come to the meeting. I've tried to play devil's advocate due to communication issues but feel like am I gaslighting my child?

My DS is meant to have regular meetings to talk about day and this has happened twice when it's meant to be happening daily. They have been told about it and now upset as expecting it and not happened as promised.

Is this normal? I absolutely detest the School and having to regularly chase things up, they keep making promises then breaking them and I'm really frustrated.

Unfortunately, it is normal to have to chase. If you aren’t getting anywhere with the SENCO, have you spoken to the headteacher?

The school should not be forcing DS to wear ear defenders. The school must make reasonable adjustments and must make their best endeavours to meet DS’s SEN. However, daily meetings with the SENCO probably aren’t realistic.

Have you considered requesting an EHCNA?

@BrightYellowTrain we have been told that we are not at point of ehc plan as currently coping in School, masking quite well and coming home and blowing up.

This was why a wind down at end of day was offered, it's meant to be with different people but was suggested by Senco and put on plan but then not following it. The ear Defenders were meant to help but teachers were forcing to wear during lessons and despite talking to the School it kept happening so I told them not to bother anymore as was upsetting DS. Whether there was miscommunication or not I don't know all I know was DS was unhappy.

The amount of blow ups we have after School is unreal, School keep promising and then not following through. DS is then very upset by promises being broken.

You can request an EHCNA yourself. On their website, IPSEA has a model letter you can use. Sadly, it isn’t uncommon for schools to incorrectly tell parents their DC doesn’t need or won’t get an EHCP, but the parents go on to successfully make an EHCNA, even if they have to appeal.

You can get EHCPs for DC who mask.

The blowing up at home is known as the coke bottle effect and signifies unmet needs at school. There will be signs at school. The school just isn’t seeing them or is but isn’t recognising the signs for what they are. The school needs to be providing more support.
