Communication app for ASD

DS13 has ASD/ADHD and his OT has recommended support with communication via scripts he can use to communicate when he is unhappy and why and to narrow it down to person/place/ etc.

DS is very verbal about his subjects of interest but finds it difficult to discuss feelings. He has had previous treatment for self-harm/anxiety (now discharged as we received ASD diagnosis!)

He doesn't like to say things that aren't completely true so if he can't put things into words he won't say them.

He is very good with apps/online stuff so just wondered if there are any ASD friendly apps suitable for teens with no intellectual disabilities that can just simplify communication around feelings.

DS will often WhatsApp memes to me but I usually don't understand them!

Thanks for your help!

There's an app called "how we feel" that might be what you're looking for. It drove me a bit nuts when I tried it, but that might be because I set too many reminders. It asks how you're feeling and also includes tips and exercises and analyses about your feelings and emotions.

You could look at AAC. It isn’t just used by people with a learning disability. You could look at GRID, Proloquo or TouchVoice.

Has DS had a SALT assessment? They could help with AAC use.
