Best SEN school in Didsbury

Hi,

We have great primary schools in Didsbury but which one has the best SEN support for children?
We are really struggling with our school and don’t want to jump out of the fire into the frying pan. We really only want our child to be happy and enjoy his education whilst getting the best support possible.

Any info or tips on where to look would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Are you looking for a SEN school as per the thread title or are you wanting to know which mainstream schools in the area have a reputation for supporting pupils with SEN like your first sentence implies?

If the former, what are DC’s needs? Otherwise any suggestions may not be suitable.

If the latter, does DC have an EHCP? Because if not, you should start by seeing which schools have places for an in-year transfer.

I’m looking for a mainstream school that supports SEN students, follows the educational diagnosis recommendations in the report, as well as their own policy’s.

The child has dyslexia with ADHD cross over behaviours and probable visual processing, still awaiting the appointment for diagnosis for this. There is no ECHP at the present time.

You could look at Broad Oak, St James’ and Barlow Hall.

However, without an EHCP, if you wish for your DC to move schools, you should see who has space for an in-year admission.

Thank you. I think maybe I didn’t pose my question properly.
I am looking for recommendations of a mainstream school that actually offers SEN support, that doesn’t just say what the parents want to hear but follows through with the actions and the recommendations in the diagnosis reports.

I was hoping for some recent positive experience of this and possibly a recommendation. I know it’s all personalised as no two children are the same but there has to be a school that stands out with its SEN support? If not, what are all the parents with SEN children doing with their kids?

I know ECHP’s make things easier but they are like gold dust and we are only just on the road with our diagnosis.

I know DC well supported in the 3 schools posted in my pp. Like all schools, not everyone likes them, so if DC is in one of them already, you will obviously need to look elsewhere.

All schools must make their best endeavours to meet a pupil’s SEN. However, even in supportive schools, parents often have to drive the process. There is a limit to what can be provided at a SEN Support level even in the best schools, so it depends on what has been recommended. What is required but isn’t being provided?

The only way to guarantee specific provision is via an EHCP. EHCPs aren’t based on diagnosis, so it doesn’t matter you are just at the beginning. They are based on needs.

St Paul's school in Withington is nurturing and has an excellent SENCo. They have spaces in a few years in the school. Lots of extra groups for children with dyslexia. They stream for maths and English and usually have a smaller set for children who are struggling. I've also heard good things about West Didsbury CofE Primary from parents with children who have SEN. Worth going and seeing any schools you are thinking about moving your child to before you do it.
