How to support child with ADHD/ASD at school

My 9yo is struggling at school. Has ADHD & (probably, waiting for assessment autism).

Copes ok in classes, but when out of class goes a bit out of control, messing about - as if this has been bottled up in structured lessons.

Also has working memory & executive functioning issues and finds it hard to remember things he's been told, teachers have implied he's naughty & lying when he says he can't remember things.

I have a meeting with school & need to have an idea of what kind of things could be put in place to help him. Please does anyone have any ideas?

Some of the following could help: giving instructions one at a time, giving written instructions/information, checking DS has processed each instruction/task, breaking tasks down into smaller components, looking at placement within the classroom, movement breaks, therapy bands on chair legs/wobble board/exercise ball instead of normal chair/standing desk/under desk exercise bike pedals, nurture group, Zones of Regulation. If DS needs them things like word banks, sentence starters, pre-teaching new vocab, post-it notes can help plan longer pieces of writing. Some find using a laptop and assistive technology helps with working memory difficulties &/or EF difficulties. Lunch clubs for those who struggle with the less structured nature of breaks. Not all schools would be able to provide all these without an EHCP, but all schools should be able to do at least some.

Time out, extra breaks, fiddle toys etc to help concentrate. Needs absolutely down time when home. And tbh decent staff who don’t call him naughty…
