My 6 year old child with suspected autism/adhd has an ultrasound soon of there stomach due to ongoing issues. I’ve gently told them about this and shown a video of what to expect. But response was shouting screaming and “I will not do it”, I don’t know how an earth il get them to go through with it?

I've used a combination of bribery, we've discussed lying as still as you can so it's over quicker and questions like I wonder if they know what's in your tummy? Also as they've got older the benefits of why its been done. Dc1 and 3 have had multiple scans and both have asd. Dc1 found head phones and a book were good distractions (something like wheres wally so they need to concentrate). Dc3 can never be distracted! I also ring up before hand to warn them. Don't get there to early. Also if there's going to be a wait I ask to check in then go for a walk and they ring me just before the appointment time.

Ask if the hospital has a play therapist who can work with DS beforehand.

Also contact the learning disability liaison nurse. In some areas they are called the autism and LD liaison nurse but even if they aren’t they will still support patients with autism who do not also have a LD and other patients with additional needs who need support. They can help with making reasonable adjustments such as looking around beforehand, somewhere quiet to wait, not having to wait at all even if they are running late, distraction…

And yes to bribery if that works for DS.
