Ive been reading some of the posts on this board and so many of you are so knowledgable I’m hoping you can help.

My daughter is 8 and I have numerous concerns about her but don’t have any concrete evidence other than her being given extra help in the classroom through smaller groups. She is academically behind where she should be.

Some of the things she finds difficult are reading, reading comprehension, poor concentration, spelling, maths, following instructions and regulating her emotions. She doesn’t sleep without melatonin (this got prescribed by her GP) and her diet in incredibly limited. I’ve had a few people as if she if hard of hearing as she often doesn’t respond when spoken to (I’ve had her hearing checked and it’s fine) as she’s lost in thought. She is highly emotional.

I believe a there’s a few possible issues going on but I can’t afford to pay for a private educational psychologist so I feel totally stuck. Her school have said they are limited in the number of referrals they can make and she isn’t as ‘severe’ as other children in the school so they won’t do it.

Ive tried going through the GP but got nowhere.

Ive seen people on this board saying parents can apply but I don’t have much evidence. Will they take my word for it?

Any help is very appreciated.

Use IPSEA’s model letter to make the EHCNA request. You can gather evidence by making subject access requests to the school and GP.

If the LA refuses, and they may well do, that isn’t unusual, you can appeal. If you get to this point and need independent assessments as evidence there is funding you can look at if you can’t afford it.
