Really need help about school

My five year old has no diagnosis but I do suspect ADHD or high functioning autism. Behaviour in reception was good in the day but meltdowns after school, I spoke to the school regarding my concerns but I was dismissed and my parenting was to blame. For the last few month of reception my child’s behaviour went downhill. There were big meltdowns in school and they started to punish by missing playtime, this didn’t work at all obviously. Moving into year 1 has been a nightmare , the school seemed to make more of an effort and made reasonable adjustments to not do things like PE which caused distress and allow frequent breaks out of the classroom to play with favourite toys.

Right now each morning and drop off is horrendous, screaming , running away and kicking doors. My child has now been suspended for trashing a classroom and throwing chairs the class had to be evacuated. This was due to being asked to do work which they absolutely hate doing. I’m extremely stressed and don’t know where to go next with this , I know the behaviour is unacceptable but I feel like there must be something more going on? The school don’t seem to listen to me about either diagnosing or ruling out SEN? The child’s father is battling with me and does not want them to have a “label” so I don’t even feel like I can push for this.

Have you spoken to the GP?

Request a meeting with the SENCO. Follow up all verbal conversations with emails so you have a paper trail. The school need to be providing more support. Do they have a nurture group? Do they have anyone who could support Zones of regulation work?

If drop off is difficult, has the school put in adjustments such as going in 5/10 mins early or late, via a quieter entrance, with someone to meet him?

Also, request an EHCNA. On their website, IPSEA has a model letter.
