Dyspraxia night pain??

Hi guys first post so hope I get this right 😳 my ds who’s 3 1/2 is currently in the process of getting his dyspraxia diagnosis, I just wondered if any other children suffered from leg pain particularly at night after being on their feet for a few hours during the day? Ds is suffering and I have no clue how to help him deal with the pain been advised to give him the normal (calpol and ibuprofen) until we next see our consultant but they don’t touch the pain.

thanks 😊

If calpol and ibuprofen aren’t helping I would be calling the consultant’s secretary to request the next appointment is brought forward. Return to the GP and ask they write to the consultant asking the same. It is worth a physio referral too - in some areas you can self refer.

Has DS got hypermobility? Has anyone looked at his feet?

Does a massage &/or bath help?

Hi thanks for your reply, I spoke to the consultants secretary and am awaiting a phone call, he has been referred to physio although told the waiting time can be lengthy. He’s had legs and feet checked including X-rays and can’t see any issues. Massage was effective before but hasn’t been as helpful this past week. He’s currently undergoing multiple health complications and my doctors aren’t the greatest unfortunately missing important referrals and information sharing I will keep fighting to get him seen quicker just wondered if anyone else had experienced this and found ways of helping manage the pain in the mean time 😊

I had leg pain like this as a child and it felt like cramp - my dc have had similar and I offer a leg stretch as well as paracetamol/ibuprofen. Maybe that's something to try if you don't already?

Sorry just saw you said you tried massage - by leg stretch I mean more like what a personal trainer would do at the end of an exercise session rather than a massage.

You could try a TENS machine &/or heat/cold (some find one or the other more helpful, others find alternating best) if you haven’t already.

If the pain becomes severe, I would call 111/go to A&E.

Look into hypermobility and also explore muscle tone especially hypotonia, which can go in hand-in-hand. If you can, it would be worth an Occupational Therapist assessing your child.
