Auditory processing issues.

I think my DD age 12 may have some processing issues. It's getting worse as she's getting older.

I've looked this up and she has many of the indicators.

She does not understand idioms and sayings
. She literally interprets information given to her.

It took me about an hour to explain the stockport stabbings to her. I had to use pictures and words and create a time line in the end. As she kept asking questions that had no relevance to what I was saying.
She asks very obvious questions such as "why is that bottle blue? " without thinking of the answer herself.

Does anyone else have experience of this?

Does DD have any diagnoses such as ASD? Have you spoken to the SENCO? Has she ever had an ed psych or SALT assessment &/or seen an audiologist?

Lots of preteens ask obvious questions without thinking first. On its own that wouldn’t be a concern.

Thanks. None of the above. X

It is worth speaking to the SENCO when schools return and looking at referrals to audiology and SALT. If there are auditory processing issues and you can get a referral there are specialist clinics such as this that are excellent. I think it is also worth considering whether there are signs of ASD and if a referral for assessment is worthwhile.
