Feel I have to choose one twin over the other

Was looking for some advice (no judgement please).

Feel like I’m stuck in a tight spot. Our one twin with additional needs has been awarded a space at a Flying Start resources provision. Initially told he would get transport whilst our other twin ( NT) stayed in their current Flying Start provision. Now transport saying because I can drive and our NT twin finishes at 11:30 and ND twin at 12 that I don’t need transport. However, my NT twin goes straight to bed in his cot after nursery (asleep by 11:45) and has a solid 2 hour nap. If I had to do pickup he would fall asleep in the car (for which I would have to wake him up to pick ND twin up) and then wouldn’t nap at home. If I try keep him awake he’s going to have to sit in the car and wait for his brother and eat lunch in the car (I don’t think that’s fair).

Should I fight for the transport on the grounds that my NT twin already sacrifices so much for his brother. If both of the boys had the same finish time we would have automatically been awarded transport.

TIA xx

You can and should appeal, SNAPCymru may be able to help you. However, you should be aware transport for DC who are not yet compulsory school age has different rules and it is not an automatic entitlement.

Other DC, multiples or otherwise, are often not considered when looking at transport eligibility. Even for compulsory school age pupils.

Thank you for your reply. Deep down I feel I should at least be able to get my point across. Their current provision and advisory teacher strongly believe I should be able to oppose it. The final decision lies with the supervisor of the new provision who I met last week and seemed lovely. I can understand their point of view on paper but I just have such guilt on my NT who gives up so much already to the point where it depends whether we send our ND to this new provision or not. Either way I feel like I let one of them down 🙈 it doesn’t help the car park to the new provision is like a 4 minute walk so doing that with both twins (one who doesn’t walk and one who will be tired and grumpy) and 4 year old brother is a challenge 😂

I wouldn’t have gone through the hassle of filling all the transport paperwork out if I knew it wasn’t for definite. I’ve happily agreed to do the drop off at 9:30.

I’ve just had a phone call saying there is the possibility I can have the transport starting next week until when they finish for summer (3 weeks into summer break) to ease us in 🙈

Do you have a double buggy?

Is there a disabled space closer to the nursery? Do you have a blue badge?

Have you spoken to the local authority? Not all LAs provide transport to nursery, but it is worth seeing if you live in an area that does.
