My child turned 5 and its like his brain went into overdrive, he developed a stutter around his 5th birthday but it progressively gotten worse more so in the last half term now he can hardly start and sentence or mid conversation he will stutter quite badly.
He has realised that breaking down the word makes it a it easier but its still quite bad.
I suppose what I'm trying to ask is there any other parents/carers out there that have or had this similar thing happen? how did you deal with it? how did you get the child to overcome or cope with it?
I have been to doctors who have referred to speech & langue, early help etc.

He is under referral for ADHD/ASD.

thank you 😀

It's more common than you may think. Most kids I know who stuttered around age 5-6 are fluent now. Be patient and give them time. Their brain works faster than their mouth. Speech therapist can help.

SALT should help. Try not to draw attention to the stutter or rush DS. That can make it work.

Is DS showing anxiety?

I would prioritise getting a speech therapist, even if you have to pay. Have there been changes at home? Is there more rushing around, pressure, lots of activities?
