Secondary school for SEND children, Wirral

Could anyone recommend a secondary school for SEND children? My daughter will be in Year 6 this September, and we are looking for the right secondary school for her. We have looked around, but the Educational Psychologist suggested that we consider a school with small class sizes that will help her, rather than a complex special school. However, we haven't been able to find any in Wirral. Does anyone have recommendations for mainstream schools with good SEND support or independent schools in the area? Thanks!

I'm assuming you've ruled out West Kirkby? Sorry no advice but interested why you have ruled that out... my ds is currently in mainstream primary with support and unsure what high school might be suitable near us... we would move to be near the right one and West Kirkby sounds good but we're not at the stage of looking in detail.

Are there any SEN parent groups in your area, I'm a member of our Facebook group and that is the type of question that gets asked a lot and there should be plenty of current lived experience to help you decide.

If you want an independent mainstream, you could look at Abbey Grange College in Chester. They are probably within travelling distance of you. I know they have lots of DC with SEN, including a couple with EHCPs. It is a shame you aren’t closer to Lord’s in Bolton. They will be too far, but lots with EHCPs are/have been happy there if you want an idea of what a small independent could be like.

If you are looking at independent specialist schools, I second looking at West Kirby.

We look at West Kirby but she is only mild delay but it will be beneficial for her to get regular support from OT and speech. They suggested we should look somewhere mainstream or independent with small class size would be help her.

Have you looked at Neston High? I have no personal experience but I’ve see good comments on the local Facebook pages?
