25% extra time

Top set Y10 DD has been Exam Access Arrangement tested and recommended for 25% extra time in exams.

We have a meeting with the Senco to discuss how things are going for DD. What other support might be on offer?

Also, we don't have any kind of diagnosis from the test results, and the results were a bit of a surprise. I've read that referrals to Educational Psychologists are not always given. How many referrals might a state secondary with c.1000 pupils make?

It depends why she has the extra time - do they think she might be dyslexic? Does she normally need more time to finish her work in class? Why was she screened and what did they do to test her?
If she's dyslexic then coloured overlays, exams printed on different coloured paper, use of a computer and a computer reader might all be possible. It depends why she got the extra time though.
I think you need to find out what issues the test indicates and take it from there. I thing Ed Psych appointments are probably like hens teeth and as she's doing well I'd be amazed if she got one.

Other access arrangements that may be possible include rest breaks, a word processor, reader/computer reader, scribe (or the spelling and grammar checker enabled)/speech to text software, smaller room, but it depends on DD’s needs. You can see the rules here. Whatever the arrangements they will need to be DD’s normal way of working.

You don’t need a diagnosis for exam access arrangements and the school’s
assessment may not result in one. Often schools undertake testing for the exam access arrangements rather than for diagnosis. There is a lot of pressure on EP time, unless the difficulties are severe an EP assessment via the school is unlikely.

I suspected dysgraphia but actually she scored below average on single word reading, verbal processing and short term memory.

What might these results indicate?

Thank you @Headfirstintothewild @takemeawayagain

There’s lots of possibilities those could indicate, without further assessment it wouldn’t be possible to say.

My DD had similar in her dyslexia test. She was over compensating in other areas and had developed really sophisticated strategies to mask how hard she was finding it. She gets 25% extra.
