Annual reviews in school for SEN dc?

May I please ask: is this a regular thing in UK to have an annual review/assessment within the school setting? I have seen previous commentary on this but I am curious if that is a regular thing? Currently overseas and we definitely do not have any annual reviews or assessments at school? No initiation on their part anyway. Would be useful to know if there is a "standard" process in schools? TIA

In England, if a pupil has an EHCP (a legal document setting out the child’s needs and the support they require to meet those needs) an annual review must, legally, be held at least once a year.

Even for those without an EHCP it is good practice to hold regular assess, plan, do, review (APDR)meetings/IEP meeting (or whatever the school calls them - there isn’t one standard term) but this isn’t a legal requirement.

Scotland, Wales and NI have their own systems. There are some similarities and some differences. For example, NI has Statements of SEN instead of EHCPs but they must still be reviewed annually.

Thanks for this - it's very useful. We will be returning to the U.K. in the future, so this is useful to know.
